4x4 Petrol Diesel costs

Hi guys

Could anyone with a 4x4 tell me roughly how much petrol or diesel they consume a week and engine size. We have an X3- considering swapping for an X5 or similar and just wanted to get a feel of the fuel spend.

Thanks

  • well it depends what mileage you do and where do you do it

i would compare the combined mpg figure of your current car and the car you want
  • I have a 3.0 Nissan Patrol, although it is much larger than the X5 it has a smaller engine so should even out. Anyway i get about 15-20 Mpg an average week commuting costs about (30 miles a day) £40 a week but add in general running about, you will b e surprised how much this costs in a large 4x4. I recon i am out about £400 a month on fuel. Go on along run and you are well into three figures, but ok if you can afford it. But my advice is if you are even slightly bothered about fuel cost forget a large 4x4.

TBH I'd like to downsize but OH is set on the X5. I find mine is absolutely fantastic on the M'ways but as soon as you hit the slip road the indicator starts going down down down. OH has his work car so we use my car at weekends as a family because his is smaller (but due to change May). I travel a lot with work but only work p/t and get fuel allowance and then it's run around miles.... just trying to convince him not to do it!

    Thanks guys
