Problems with my hearth

Dear All,
I have a little problem, I have knocked out my fireplace back to the "builders opening", and and recently nailed all my old wooden floor boards down.
I had purchased some sandstone to use as a hearth but when I rest it on the fireplace it is not flat and does not sit flat on the floorboards.
What can i do about this? Can i lower the fireplace a inch or so to bring it level with the floor boards? It is brick. Its just a little annoying as if it was flush it'll look lovely, but at the moment im stuck with it like this.
Thank you for your help.
Rich.

Hi Rich, the hearth should be a certain heigh from the floor boards, think it's 2" or so. Do you have any pics available? I assume the sandstone isn't a consistent height and that's the issue when you place the surround on it?0

I shall try and sort out a pic, as it is difficult to explain, but i think you have it. its 3 slabs and they are of uneven height. Not having done anything like this before its good to seek advice.0

yup, ship up some pics. Are you having a surround or literally just the hearth and a fire basket etc?0
