Rechargeable battery time again

It's Aldi this time, (Lidl must be having the week off) from Sunday the 18th.
£1-99 for various packs, AAA, AA, C, D and 9v. It doesn't state if they are Ni-Cad or Ni Mh but I would presume that they are the latter. The link is :- http://uk.aldi.com/sunday_special_buys/productnl_2519.html

The important bit is not so much Ni-Cad or Ni Mh, but actually how many Amp hours the batteries are able to deliver. Usually says somthing like 2100mAh on the battery side. Maplin have a pack of four 2500mAh batteries at half price for £7.99 at the moment!
Like anything you get what you pay for!0 -
Agreed but the last batch of AAs which I had from Lidl were 2000 mAh, that's not too bad value for £1-99 is it ?
A quarter of the price for 20 % less capacity.0 -
May as well ask on here rather than starting a new thread.

No the £1.99 Aldi and Lidl rechargeables ARE NiMh and are usually around 2100 mAh for the AA ( pack of 4) and 3000 for C(2 in pk) and 4000mAh for D(2), they go within the hour, being bargain loss leader prices to get you to the store.
AND they usually do a 4 slot universal charger with timer for around £3.99 at the same time.
Offer comes round every six months or so at both stores.ac's lovechild0 -

Hi,
You can use any brand batteries. You may need to check what type of rechargeables the charger accepts however (ni-cad / ni mh etc.)0 -

It certainly matters if it is Ni-Cad or Ni Mh. Ni-Cad batteries have a memory effect. This means that if the battery is recharged when it is not fully charged then it tends to "remember" that partial charge as a full charge. Meaning the life of the battery reduces sharply when charged unnecessarily. Ni Mh batteries do not have such a limitation. They can be charged upto a 1000 times without a sharp drop in performance. Not only that Ni-Cad batteries are highly toxic when compared to Ni Mh batteries and are thus not good for the environment. Its life is also much shorter compared to Ni Mh.
In other words if you are going to buy rechargeable batteries make sure that they are Ni Mh.0 -

Theoretically you can use any other Ni Mh battery to charge in the panasonic charger. However, it is recommended to use the panasonic batteries because that would give you optimum performance. The performance of a rechargeable battery depends not only on the make and battery capacity but to a large extent also on the charger. The panasonic charger would perform as originally designed with panasonic batteries.
Having said this if you are going to be using some other good quality battery then you shouldnt notice an appreciable difference.0 -

On the last 2 occasions my nearest ALDI still had these in stock over a week later. I know because I bought some after the offer had been on 2 or 3 days and then went back and got some more about a week after that.
They had gone from display after about 18 days but even then they had not sold out. They were in the stockroom awaiting return to the warehouse and the manager kindly got me some more. There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93
