Whats the source for Waity's 'any purchase' coupon stoppage?

Here is an email I got back 5 mins ago.

    Thank you for your e-mail.

I can confirm that we have no plans to stop accepting coupons at our branches.

Waitrose accept suppliers' coupons for any product which we sell, including Waitrose Food Illustrated coupons, whether or not you are purchasing the item for which the coupon was issued and provided that the coupons are valid. However, the quantity of coupons accepted for each transaction is at the branch discretion.

Thank you again for your e-mail and for giving us the opportunity to clarify our position.

The 'source' are the staff and management at the branches. The store I use, the GM was more then happy to accept coupons provided, as with T's, they were 1 of each AND for the products the store stocked which, in my case, was quite less as the store is one of the tiniest. I was advised by a manager they had received a 'communique' from Head Office which advised them of the policy change and to that effect cards were to be distributed to cmrs as off the beginning of next wk advising of the policy change. We have heard the rumours in December and this does appear to be the end of times when coupons were accepted for items not purchased.

In regards to the email you have received all I can think is that the person who replied to u is not aware of the imminent policy change...

Mad, hate to be the bearer of bad news but this looks like 'it'!:( I feel they have given till the end of the month so all their stores introduce the policy at once and cmrs r not left feeling 'cheesed off'... TBH, with W's cmr care one still feels like shopping in their stores (if they were not so 'dear')...

You've got 4-5 bstores saying very similar things... and its quite expected.... my store said it was in response to huge uptake in people using coupons at waitrose (my store had 1 going in normally which went up to 13 once tesco stopped)

Just went to tesco and got 66 quid worth of stuff for 3 pounds :P.

    Wohoo :)

    10 quid M+S
    10 quid Waitrose
    5 quid farmfood
    2 coupons for something i bought :P
30 quid coupon for baby basket
6-7 quid coupons for nappies i bought :P

My store was v quiet so loads were discounted (30p watermelons!) and other things... altho did have to carry stuff back to home with my wife. Loved it tho :).
