I used to watch the ones on eBay there was some really weird items for sale. Unfortunately I never saved the seller details. :(

It is an online Police Auction. Some Police forces appear more than others, so your location may be lucky.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

The term "police auction" is a bit vague, in that there are not often dedicated sales of stolen/recovered stock, but it is a general auction where police reclaims are added amongst other lots.

There is a good list at www.eempire.co.uk/policeandbailiffauctions, and I regularly go to http://www.charlestaylor.co.uk/ in Manchester which has plenty of police items, and an online catalogue with photos to view in advance.

A word to the wise though - these items are cheap for a reason. Yes, I saw plasma TV's being sold for £40 + vat + 10% buyers fee, but remember they come with no warranty, no cables, no remotes, and often damaged in someway where they have been forcibly removed for example.

Again, the seized cars sell for very little money, but it's rare that they have keys and paperwork, and even rarer that they will actually start if the key is present. You are also advised to change the reg plates, as some of the previous owners may have a few people still looking out for them.

If you know what you are looking for there are some bargains, but there are also a lot of money pits that go under the hammer.

Don't forget to buy some grease and metal polish - most of the bikes that I've seen at the auctions have normally sat in a warehouse or compound for 6 months and are in need of a good fettle and clean/de-rust.

Have a look at the photos of the bikes at the next Charles Taylor auction to see what they are like. You are probably better off looking for a bike on local pick up on ebay as the prices will be similar, there will be a bigger choice, and they'll probably be in better condition.

We used to have one near me, that was fantastic with some truly great bargains, especially if it was raining on auction day.

However some guy came in and said he would buy their entire stock each month, so the auctions ceased to be.
