Help - emulsion on carpet!

I've just been painting the hall and managed to slop 1/4 pint of white emulsion on the stairs. I've blotted what I can and scrubbed with water and washing-up liquid, but I can still see a 'shadow' of it on there (dark patterned carpet). What can I do?

Yes .... there's some odd sort of DIY law that says you and your dust sheets must never move in harmony!

I've only been able to overcome it since accumulating enough dust sheets to cover Wembley. But the only drop of paint I ever spill - unerringly finds that tiny gap at the skirting, where a dust sheet pulled away last time I moved the steps!!

If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
