right to buy freehold??

I have bought a large victorian terrace which has a 1 bed ground floor flat sold off on a lease.There are 70ish yrs left on the lease and so assume the tenant will want to extend it at some point but we don't want to sell the freehold and intend to refuse if she requests this.Are we within our rights?We have no lease just the freehold with the benefit of the downstairs lease.

Don't worry, you'll be under no obligation to sell the freehold.
From your other post regarding selling part of the garden to the leaseholder ,it sounds as if offering a new extended lease that includes the part of garden in question will be more than welcome.
I know if it were me I'd jump at it if the price wasn't extortinate, as it'll increase the value & saleability of the gf flat.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
