On a very small scale I run a therapy training company for private courses in the beauty field, terms and conditions state all fees are due in advance, etc. This year more than ever I have been messed around by organising dates with students then recieving no payment and days been wasted.
I also work full time so have to fit this around my shifts or take days off, so therefore if I have a no shown its a complete waste of time and no fees.
How can I make this more efficient?

If the payments are due in advance then why are you letting them make appointments without taking the money?I am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. I also write wills. All information posted on this site is for discussion only, and should not be taken as advice.0

Take a non-refundable deposit upon booking and move your deadlines for final payment forward or at least require 50% is paid x weeks in advance.0

Alot of the time they are sent a paypal invoice hence I am waiting for payment but make it clear that until payment is received, the dates are not confirmed.
Clearly this isnt always working. So as you suggest perhaps advising that until a deposit is received no dates are confirmed.0 -
paulwf is right here, take the deposit - and make it clear in your terms and conditions that if they cancel, you will be left without income for that day - so the deposit has to be a reasonable enough amount to cover any losses you may make.0

Also consider discounts for full payment well in advance.
How are you usually paid ?0 -

Very good point. Get half of the people to pay early by offering a 10% discount...fund this by raising your listed price by 5%0 -
Via an online shop, with regard discounts I have tried everything, currently offering half price courses. However, the market is not good in the holistic field hence if I book days out for training, I need to ensure payment received. Sadly there are alot of unprofessional people working in this profession!0
