How can I make it clear to HSBC that I didn't make a Western Union Payment????

I've just opened my HSBC Credit Card statement and found a payment to Western Union for £381.90 that i didn't make. I called HSBC, explained the situation and they immediately canceled the card.
I asked what would happen with the £381.90 that had been paid and they put me through to another department (called COI i think). The person I spoke to said that as the Western Union online site was an authenticated, secure site, HSBC was not responsible for the money.
Is this true?

I would say NO! You did not authorise the payment and therefore that is classed as fraud. Does not matter if it was a secure site you did not authorise the payment. I would ask to speak to their dispute line. This way you raise a dispute about the payment and they have 28 days to investigate it0

Definitely dispute the transaction as fraudulent.
I think they are trying to fob you off, do not let them get away with this. Western Union is known to be used heavily by Nigerian fraudsters.0 -
Thanks to both of you. I've disputed and they are going to investigate and send me a report. I asked HSBC to explain why the Western Union transaction counts as an authorised payment and the response was that the Western Union site has an authentication process on their site. I've visited the Western Union site and it appears identical to most other ecommerce sites that I have used.
I've had card fraud happen twice in the past, once with MBNA about 10 years ago and once more recently with our Virgin One Account and in both cases they sorted it out immediately. So far HSBC seem very shabby.
Should I report this to the police as a fraud?0 -
There is no need to contact the police - the bank will do so if they want to.
Just keep at HSBC - remember it is their money that has been used not yours.0
