So fed up, AOL problem

I have always been able to use the AOL mail system with no problem but for a few days I have not been able to get to the mail page. I have been all over the Internet looking for help but with no joy. If I do locate a proper logon page it tells me my details are incorrect (same details I have used for years). Has anyone any idea what is going on here?. Dragging an AOL mail icon to the Firefox tool bar has not made it better either. Help please.

I have not used the AOL icon to access the net for two years. I simply went in via Internet Explorer, installed Mozilla Firefox, and entered AOL on the browser. I then set AOL as a favourite in Firefox, and I only ever use Firefox to access the net (I never use IE any more because Firefox seems to be far quicker).

Thank you Andy. Someone on here last week asked which version of Firefox I was using but then, when I responded, did not tell me what difference it made.
Last night, all of sudden, the mail page appeared. I have sent a help message to AOL via another of their many pages...one that said Feedback. They used to be good at providing assistance but maybe something has changed.

By the way, apart from being quicker than IE, Firefox is also safer. It has more security built in. I have a feeling I may have to re-install AOL as I could not locate it in programs or "my computer".

Why not just access your email via Outlook Express or Windows Mail? The AOL interface is dire.

I should add, that I have not even installed (I uninstalled it two years ago) AOL on my PC now. If you are paying the ISP (Internet Service Provider), then as long as you are hooked up to the modem/router, then using a another method to access the net will work just fine. The only things installed on my PC are - Firefox (keep it updated) and Internet Explorer.
A lot of people incorrectly think that you have to load your ISP's software to gain access to the net, this is incorrect.

Hi OP - I have AOL as my ISP, but use only Firefox to access my AOL mail. I got fed up of AOL's software overriding everything else on my machine, and slowing things down. It's a completely awful piece of software IMHO. I have saved AOL Mail into my Firefox toolbar (press Ctrl+D to save it), and just click on there a couple of times a day to check my mail. I click here:

http://info.aol.co.uk/email/ as mentioned above by Electron

Incidentally, I'm so unimpressed with AOL, and fed up of paying their high broadband rental for less than 2mbs of service, that I'm in the process of switching over to an all inclusive Sky package, which will save me £35 a month on my phone/tv/broadband rental.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

I have tried that but still could not locate AOL email. And I do so agree with you about the interface. I did have a link to AOL email on my Firefox too l bar but that has disappeared too. Been pulling my hair out not knowing if someone is trying to contact. Also today another problem is back. On Firefox main page the print is enormous and I can't remember what I did last week to put that right.

ALSO, in Vista, it is not clear how to go back to a restore point in say September
or August. Just having a bad day. Apart from all this I have been locked out of my bank by entering a wrong number with a card reader.

See if this here helps you sort out your current problems.

You don't 'locate it', you open your email program and set up your AOL account in it as a new accuont. If you advise what email program you are using, someone can help and give you the AOL server settings. You just need to know your email username and password.

I have tried this but will have another go and see if it works.
One thing that is really driving me mad is that the print size on my Firefox opening page is huge - and on here too but, strangely, not on other pages.
I can find a login for AOL but it keeps telling me the the details are wrong.I really hope all this is not caused by a virus. I am running AVAST.
