Font size in e-mails gets smaller in transmission

I send emails out in a Font size 10 or 12, but when the recipient gets them, they have shrunk down to a size 8 font which is so small that the text is difficult to read.

Similarly I sometimes receive emails typed in a larger font, but when they reach me, the font is tiny.

Is this something to do with the recipient's computer settings? How can one prevent this happening?

Email is truly just text and no font information.

Your problem is related to adding font information to emails which is interpreted differently at the 2 ends of communication.

    Surely not quite so ?

emails can be sent in 'plain text', 'rich text' or 'HTML' formats ...
  • Yes, it could be due to the recipient's computer setting. You can also CC the email to yourself to check it is looking fine.

You have a 'font setting' in browser where you can adjust the font size (smaller, medium, large) etc so the recipient might have that setting set to smaller. Default is medium in IE.
