Don't know what you guys think of this.
They're a charity and trying to save an organic farm from the developers to become a sort of training/educational organic farm. Seem to be genuine and worthy.

Hi All,
I have made a post over on the charities board about Fordhall Farm and the Fordhall Community Land Initiative
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=217706
Although my thread over there is about their fundraising, I thought that some people over here might be interested in it - even if only to have a look at their website and read about their inspirational dedication in saving their farm.
Basically, it is a farm that is at risk of being developed and the owners are trying to save it through community ownership. The previous tenant (the current tenants late father) worked throughout his lifetime to use, improve and promote organic farming methods.
Anyway, I think it's worth a look!
Sophie
PS I have nothing to gain from the links - in fact Fordhall Farm is in Shropshire and I am in Lowestoft - my stepmother bought me a share in it as a surprise ethical birthday present and obviously when I received it last week I started looking into what they are doing.0 -
I saw this in the observer yesterday.
I wish I had £50 to give them, I really do:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Just to let you all know that they have raised the £800,000 needed to save the farm. They announced it on BBC Breakfast News this morning!
They now have artists impressions of the plans for a bunkhouse, tearooms and education centre on https://www.fordhallfarm.com
I hope that this will be an inspiration to many and that in the future we will see many more farms going down the route of community ownership.

Programme all about the farm on Radio 4 now! (Don't know if it'll be on listen again, here are the details
The Saving of Fordhall Farm
Monday 14 January 2008 11:00-11:30 (Radio 4 FM)
The remarkable story of a community coming together to save a corner of our countryside from the threat of development. People from all over Shropshire rallied behind a Community Land Initiative, buying non-profit-making shares to raise the necessary cash to buy a farm run by two young people whose father had been fighting eviction for years.0
