Should PL cover pay out?

Just curious on others views.... a small company of house sitters has PL insurance. One of its employees is cooking when the front door rings. They leave the cooker going and answer the front door and whilst working out the porch door the front door closes and locks behind them.
Being concerned that they are now locked out of the property with a frying pan going on the stove is a fire risk they force entry into the rear of the property.
Would PL insurance cover the damages caused to the door?
Insurance is with Sterling, claim rejected under the grounds that the damage was caused by a deliberate act.

Hi there
I think the decision is a bit harsh. Sterling have a bit of a strange set up. They don't (or didn't) have a claims manager. Instead they have a director called the "Head of claims" and a manager called the "Claims Controller". It's the Claims Controller that you need to speak to - a chap called Jamie Kemp. He has overall authority on the claims decisions and is a really nice bloke.
Give him a call (I'll send you a PM with his direct dial) and ask him if he'd review the claim for you.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
