Just from my experience with the Flip, 2 hours of 720p footage takes up 8 GB. Different camcorders will use different bit-rates though, so it could be more or less depending on which model you buy.

of course if the camcorder was not hd it would fit more onto the hard drive. that is not necessarily an argument against a hi def camcorder because i think you can change between hi def and sd depending on what you want to do. its like with mini dv tapes really were you can change from sp to lp to get more onto the tape.

The Kodak Zi8 is worth considering. It's a competitor to the Flip and has had rave reviews. It has no optical zoom though.

There are plenty of small handheld HD Camcorders for around £300-400 that are more like traditional camcorders and have optical zoom, image stabilistion etc.

If yo're happy with SD they cn be had for less than £200 and offer a lot more functionality than the Flip style cmcorders.

I'm getting a Panasonic SD10 for Christmas which was £312 (plus the cost of memory cards) and has had excellent reviews. It's full 1080p HD.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
