i have checked through my credit reports some things still on there as defaults trying to pay them off one at a time. i also found i had a ccj this i paid off in full back in march of 06.

i have been at my currant address for 3years i got myself a kays cat never missed a payment in 3 years a basic cc made a few late payments but never missed any. also have a next account again the odd late payment i also have 2 mobile contracts never missed payments in 3 years. Also had a loan for £5000 never missed a payment for the period i had it (now paid off in full so i could get my mortgage)
    limit on next account £2200
    kays £2000
yet my credit card has always been £200 and they wont put it up. is this because i am renting or should i say was renting due to complete on the 30/06/06?

Also like i said i am completing on my own house soon how long should i wait before i apply for say a better credit card or even going to the likes of comet or currys so i can get the tv i want on HP?

    thanks in advance

  • No reason given just regret cannot offer you a card at this time. First time this happened I then applied elsewhere and was given one straight away with 5k initial limit. Next time (didn't realist it was MBNA when I applied!) I again got one elsewhere immediately afterwards with a great balance transfer and a large credit limit so there could not have been anything adverse on my record. THird time i just let it go and decided NEVER to approach MBNA again ie to make sure I knew to whom I was actually applying - that had been a BMI card ( something similar) as I was flying up and down the country for work and thought the arimiles on that card would be useful.

NOoooooooooooooooooo get a second hand telly off ebay or from the loot or something!! Then save up for one you want!!!! I got mine from tescos for £75, which has done me fine for 2 years. Dont get a currys card, interest is sky high:eek:

Good to have you on board.

Question - someone I worked with went abroad to NZ leaving behind a huge amount of debt. I was annoyed as the rest of us are going to have to make it up in higher interest rates. But, can they not be chased abroad for their debt? Surely, with international cc companies, this should be possible?

    Thanks.

From what I remember when I was at the bank, we were always 'educated' to tell customers that we are an international company and can send your debt anywhere in the world. In theory... and team meetings, we were advised that legislation legally doesnt enitle us to the debt however just tell them that it does.

So your answer is nope !

Also the people who got letters from the bank they feel i worked at ... did they call the credit dept and ask for a reason, and not to be fobbed off... they are judgenmental analysts and decisions can very easily be turned around if warranted. ;)

It's a bummer when people leave their debts behind but hey, some of us have a conscience (and that is why we are DFW's) and others don't care.
Sometimes I feel annoyed with people who do a bunk and then other times I feel that the banks deserve it or irresponsible lending. But I am not judging anyone as who knows what people's circumstances are when they decide to do certain things.

But sometimes people have no realistic way of clearing debt in any amount of time... I can understand why people do it.

Banks also have funds to offset this, dont forget they make more money out of people in trouble than they do people who run accounts well.

Another snippet is that the interest you pay over 3/5/10 years etc... ill bet most people would have cleared the balance off twice over if there were base rate being charged. I have no sympathy for the banks whatsoever....
