Hi as you have inside information you might be able to help. or other moneysavers might know. My partner has been living abroad for six years and has no credit cards or loans. He has no debt (lucky thing) but the problem is that he would like to buy a car but recently got turned down for a loan. I explained to him that if he didn't have a credit history (at 37) then it would be difficult to get credit. Where is the best place to start? does paying household bills ie gas and electricity count? If so, would he have to pay by direct debit?
Any advice gratefully received. We think that as he has now been turned down for a car loan by his bank that it will be difficult for him to get a credit card.

Hi Mike! Thanks for being open to lots of quesitons!

Firstly I thought most applications were done by an automated system? Youmknow where they say an online decision in 5 minutes! Although with most of my applications they say that no decision could be made and I'll be contacted. Is this where manual intervention (you basically) come in to things?

Also, what sort of % of debt to income is beyond your lending criteria?

    Oh and one more! :p

You say that you have target sales to hit? Now when it comes to buying a car the advice is to buy it in the last week of the month as salesmen are despereate to reach their targets! Could the same be said for credit cards?

well... im sorry but your overseas friend must complete an application to fo the 3years employment, income, home, etc etc test,... he will then pass the credit throw out test andthen we could have called him, asked for address and done a job check... then approval is within means,.,,.,.,

however carcraft are very good brokers on secired motor finance !

and yeeeeh.... at the end of the month they are at their greeeeeeediest ! but dont forget your app could have been sitting in a q for 2 weeks anyway !

debt to income... well that just depended on what you put... no check ! within reason
