Lazy&indebt's progress so far...

Hi Everyone.... My light bulb moment happened 3 months ago.

Since then, I have reduced my debt by £2k, saved up £600 and reduced my monthly outgoings by about a half...

However....I feel like I have a black cloud hanging over me all the time. I don't even feel proud of myself for doing this and I literally hate myself for every penny I spend, I haven't even treated myself with my birthday money. i tell myself I don't deserve to buy anything because it is my fault i owe so much money and it is starting to depress me! I'm snappy all the time and living on the bare minimum constantly.

Does anybody else get like this?

Hey there.... wooo wooo wooo.... calm down, you have no reason to feel like that. If the psycolocical, mind altering marketing departments at these places actually thought and the credit granting departments actually looked at this then they would not have let you get in this state.

we are all in the same boat... when you have over £80k in debt between 2 of us.. then worry !

    Ur ok.. ulll be fine

I think most people get down when in debt! You sound as if you are being a bit too tough on yourself. Factor in some treats for yourself. If you have reached your set goal by the end of each month then reward yourself - you have done well so pat yourself on the back! Then look forward to the end of the next month knowing that another link of the debt chain has fallen from around your neck! Not all treats need to cost money either - search out some freebie outings, pack a picnic and go and enjoy the good weather while it lasts. Life is for living and laughing too.

simple answer is yes! But, you just have to grit your teeth and tell yourself to get some perspective - I always count up whats good - and weigh it against the debt and generally realise that I should get over myself and stop being so miserable. My OH often says that he'd rather I was over indulgent with money every now and then, than was over indulgent with brow beating and misery every day! You should give yourself time to be proud - reward yourself somehow without lowing the bank (like a day in the park, baking a cake for tea, a bottle of wine - whatever floats your boat!)
In fact, I feel glum so often that I started this thread

to remind myself that I can do it - we all can, and without wasting our lives being miserable and penny pinching either! Don't be too hard on yourself - it's only a matter of time now until things are sorted!

Hey! dont beat yourself up :grouphug:

Everyone working hard at being debt free has down days. You have done well in 3 months and have cleared £2k :T that is something to feel good about :j and proud of, it is so easy to slip and slide in the first few months especially with occasions such as birthdays.

One note though you mentioned savings.. you really ought to be putting all your cash towards your debts before you consider saving. What you will make on savings is not as much as what you will be paying in interest on your debt so put that extra dough on your debt to smack that interest down.

Keep going hun.. it will get easier..

Funnily enough I was feeling that same way myself this morning. Sometimes I thin that as I've worked hard for so long I deserve to buy myself something nice, then I realise that's what got me in debt in the first place. But now I'm feeling proud of myself for sticking with it. Just remind yourself why you're doing it, imagine how it'll feel to be debt free and don't feel you're missing out on anything because you're not, you're working towards the rest of your (debt free!) life.

Thanks every one! Had a good weekend so have chilled out a bit.
$17mma - am saving because all my debts are either 0% or a fixed payment (my loan) so I figured it would make sense to save the money in an ISA and earn interest on it and use that cash to clear my 0% credit card

I think you are doing brill and the problems are in your head, you have to allow yourself to feel proud of your achievements. I was jumping up and down will joy when I hit my 6 month target 2 weeks early and when I get under £15,000 people will never hear the end of it. lol
You have cleared debt faster than I am and got better deals, you are doing very well. Hugs.

To me, you definitely don't seem lazy and won't be in debt for long either! You are doing brilliantly and you must allow yourself to feel proud of your achievement. We all are :T
