HI Guys.
Today I'm feeling really positive after a discussion with my boyf last night where we worked out, that if I keep going at current rate, I could be debt free in 2 years!!! So by the time I'm 26 instead of 31!!! That's a huge difference, and has made me feel really good and positive about it all.
I wanted to record it on here, because so often I come on feeling all glum and beaten down, and I think it would be good to have a place to come to remember that the dark times pass, and I can do it all - especially if I'm here online telling myself I can! (If that makes warped sense).
So please could everyone post here on their positive days - just so there is a record and proof for yourself and others, that we CAN do it (even though sometimes it's hard!).
Ok. Cheerleading over!

What a good idea!!
I had a sigh of relief earlier today when a couple of calculations suggested that once my OH returns to work we could be debt free in 4 years instead of 12 :beer:0 -
I've just spend an hour arguing at Barclays so i know what you mean about being worn down. It doesn't help that my throut was sore to start with and I have a thumping headache. (sorry to ramble). Positive point is that the money should be back by Monday so we have finaly won our unfair charges back.
I will be debt free sometime in 2008 so just after you. This will pay off Barclays O/D:mad: a chunk off Capital one:D and a donation to the bank action group for their help. Also by end of June I will be ahead of my £3,000 target for this 6 months. So if I had any engergy I would run round the garden naked doing a happy dance.:T :T :ABarclaycard 3800

Great idea !!
This time last week, I lost my job and though it was the end of my world. Was so sad, after 22 years in the same job.
On Monday, I was offered a little part time job as a dinner lady (now lunchtime assistant). You may laugh, but I really needed something, anything just to get my backside off this chair as I could feel myself sliding into depression. We even get a free lunch everyday, how fab is that !!
Anyway, yesterday I was offered a fully funded place at college, starting in September to do an NVQ.
Who'd have bloomin well thought it ehh - me going back into education at my age. You just never know what's round the corner. Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

YAY!!!! see. WE CAN DO IT. I'm so happy now. Thanks everyone for posting - spud, that's wicked! "close a door and god opens a window" and all that! Broken hearted - well done for beating down the Barclays Baddies - see how powerful we are? some of us have multinational banking conglomerates cowering at our feet!!! And FulLightBulb - Yay for you - doesn't it feel great? I always think that the debt free date is what really motivates me, rather than the doom of the actual numbers - just knowing that by this day I'll be free to live the life I want!!!
Yay for us!
apologies for any over enthusiasm there!Official Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095! Debt Now:

No apologies needed for over-enthusiasm Mirtos.
My OH is taking the mickey big time over me going back to school, so it's nice to hear someone say well done.

Don't know if my calculations are right but in Excel they are out by pence I worked out last night that if we can cut our shopping bill by £100.00 a month and put it towards our joint loan we can hopefully get that paid off my January 2008 (9 months early). I can then use the money I would be saving paying off that loan and hopefully pay off £100.00 a month to my loan which if my calculations are right would mean it would be paid off I think I worked it out to be in 3 1/2 years which is half the term of the loan. I was well pleased to find that out and will be even more pleased if I can acheive it.Did owe £9,951.96
Now helping hubby pay off loan. Finally paid off :j

Thanks for this post. I have been feeling distinctly deflated over recent weeks. I'm working full time on a not too great wage, studying and paying for it (huge expense) and I feel that rather than gobbling up the debt, I'm just pecking at it. I know that eventually I'll earn a good wage but it's a long way off. I suppose I have to see that I'm at least developing good habits in reducing the debt (however slowly) by making oh-so-regular payments although my DFD is years away at this rate. Ah well, onwards and slowly upwards... What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160

Think this is a brill idea
Well done Spud - followed your thread re the job loss. Glad you have bounced back so quickly. Hope you persue the unfair dismissal thing too - give the b***s a taste of their own medicine - bit like MSE really!

Thanks so much Mehefin,
Yes, I am going to pursue the unfair dismissal. I feel I've got to clear my name, tough as it will be.
Dont get me wrong, I still feel devastated about recent events, and have no idea how we are going to manage financially.
I am very lucky that I do have a very supportive OH, even though he struggles to cope with me in tears for hours on end as I have been recently.
He has been doing a fair bit of mickey taking. This week he's married to a dolie, next week he'll be married to a dinner lady then in September he'll be married to a student. He said this morning, it's like being newly married all over again, starting out on a fresh path in life.
The debts will be repaid. Once I've done this NVQ, I will be able to work full time again, this time with qualifications. I just hope I'm not too old to learn.
Just between us, I'm terrified of being mistaken for a student's mother !!!! :eek:Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:
