Call 0800 055 6688 to claim. It's quicker than doing it online. After that phone call, you will have an appointment time made for you.
After submitting it online, it takes a few days to get back to you.0 -
Nothing will probably happen even if you do submit it.
Mine got "lost" and I had to apply again by phone - sorted in 5 minutes!0 -

That happend to one of my friend who applied online. It got submitted successfully, but the staff didn't call him up to continue the application process. He called up and see if they recieved the online application, and they said it wasn't there. So he applied by phone straight away.0 -
i've been able to submit the applicatin form now...........but from what i can see it's probably a waste of time...i'll wait a couple of days, if i don't hear from them, i'll call them.
Also what details do i need to provide for them during the phone interview? i only ask because when i finally submitted the form, i received an error msg, so i wasn't able to view what happens next (even though my app status on my gateway account says 'submitted').0 -
My son has had real problems from doing an online application and was told by a member of staff at a job centre that online applications are to be avoided. His application was submitted 21.9.09, received phone call afterwards and went through it all over phone anyway, signed on at job centre for all of October and then received a letter beginning November stating he wasn't eligible for his claim from 1.10.09, letter dated 9.10.09! The whole thing is an absolute shambles. This was Ravenhurst BDC in Birmingham - perhaps they do it better in other parts of the country.0

This website will tell you what to provide during the phone interview: http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Howtoclaim/index.html0 -
What questions do they ask when you sign on? Im rining them tomorrow to sort it all out, never claimed before0

When you call the 0800 number to claim, they will ask questions related to your housing, income, job, and other personal things. They are straight forward questions. They are yes/no type questions. Then after that, the staff would give you a date/time to go to the Job Centre to finish things off.
During your initial interview at the Job Centre (JC), you will see two advisors.
The first advisor just check your ID, and give you a printed form, so that you could check if all the information you said on the phone interview is correct. If it's correct, it's good. If not, correct it.
The second advisor will make a Job Seekers Agreement, find out what jobs you want to do, working hours, a quick job search, and assign sign on dates/times.
During the fortnightly sign-on, you go to the ground floor, and wait for your name to be called. Show them the job log provided by the JC. They might say something, they might not. If they do, they usually say 'how's your job search going'.0 -
Thanks a lot book120

What's the point of online or phone applications if you still need to go to the job centre to register? Also, presumably any questions regarding savings, expenses etc can be ignored if applying for contribution based JSA?0
