Uses for a bowl full of sprouty garlic?

if you rub your fingers on a stainless steel tap then wash them your hands they won't smell for days - or rub damp fingers with salt and rinse - that also works
my garlic seems fine at the moment.

I wouldnt be surprised if it is the cold snap we have had that has caused it. Garlic needs a cold period before it starts to grow in the spring, so I imagine they got a bit chilly in storage and when they were shipped to a much warmer supermarket they suddenly woke up and started sprouting.0

OH told me garlic always starts sprouting in spring... I've never removed the green bits...Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Most of the garlic I've had from tesco in the last year was either like that or brown and smelly, if you buy their organic one it's sometimes better. lidl's was ok but that seems bad now, waitrose's was ok, morrisons' was ok, but it all seems very hit and miss... has been driving me mad for ages this garlic problem, may have to get OH to grow me some!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

our garlic crop for last year failed miserably0

I read somewhere that it is best to remove any green shoots, as it can taste bitter. I too had this problem till I got a thing called a garlic cellar, a little earthenware pot with a lid and ventilation holes, which now lives on a worktop in the kitchen. I don't know how much they cost new, but mine was 50p from a charity shop.0

yes, even the most innocent looking shoot will change the taste of your garlic. im a garlic connosoir!! yes its not my storage thats the problem its the way it is when bought, and i cant understand why its so bad0

It will be to do with the storage before you buy it and alliums will always try to throw up flower stems in their second year; which is what yours is after the shortest day. Even if they aren't in contact with the soil. So as soon as they go from cold storage into kitchen they kick back into life.
I'm still using last year's garlic and no growth - but they have not been stored in the cold, just all in the kitchen. Thus, hardly any temp change. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
