Yes.
They put notes throgh the door along our road. I texted them, they phoned me, they viewed, we told them the price we needed (our original buyer had dropped out, so we told them to match that price). We exchanged solicitor's details....I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hi
I mean starting from scatch with no estate agent at all advertising yourself right through to exchanging contracts with a solicitor0 -
Prepare your property - tidy up the clutter, fix and repair anything that needs doing, tidy the garden and thoroughly clean the place. Replace or remove tatty furnishings and floor coverings.
Get some good digital photographs of your house inside and out.
Write a short concise description of the property features and summary of accommodation, including room sizes - avoid agents jargon ("deceptively spacious" and all that....).
Advertise - local newspaper + a good online property site - check Google for "sell house" or "sell my house" for the established professional services (in the main search results, ignore the sponsored ads).
Get a for sale sign - even if you paint your details on a piece of cardboard, these are incredibly effective - you can get professional signs made up by a local sign company or some of the online services provide these also.
Lastly, organise a conveyancing solicitor to handle the offer when it comes in....!
Lawpack the legal publishers provide a very good self-help kit /guide ("Sell your own home") covering all aspects of preparing and selling including choosing agents or considering online marketing - costs about £15 from Smiths or Tesco or Lawpacks own website and is a very good read if you are uncertain of how best to proceed.0 -
we are doing the same thing at the moment throught a company called 1st point they are part of citifinancial which is affiliated to citibank. Did you have any problems with yours?0

my sister just both bought and sold without an estate agent. she sold through word of mouth, and then managed to buy after seeing a private ad in local newspaper - she phoned straight away, went round that night for a look and made a verbal offer (verbal offer and acceptance both binding in scotland). Written offers were then submitted through solicitors and they did the rest. Saves you a helluva lot of money without using EA and drawing up expensive brochures (think of the cost of the ink!)........worth a try!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Verbal offers are *not* binding in Scotland.0

Hello
We bought our present house via http://www.propertybroker.co.uk 4 years ago.
Last week we put it back on the same website to sell.
It cost £137 to sign up to the site. They sent a photographer around and put up a signboard a couple of days after we signed up.
In a week we had 4 viewings and 3 offers, the last of which was at asking price. We accepted.
We saved over £3,000 in EA fees.0 -
We have NEVER used an estate agent to sell a house. I guess we may be fortunate in that all our houses have been that little bit different and in good areas.
All we did was advertise the property in local and in national papers (the Adtrader was a good one).
Firstly get a local estate agent in to value your home and point out the good and bad aspects to you.
If you have a property which would be desirable and seen as a bargain to someone in a high priced big city the adtrader covers various areas.
I then took photos and prepared our own details and photocopied them. When people rang and wanted details I just sent them off immediately.
On our last house (after one ad) we had 12 telephone enquiries, 4 people came to view and 2 put in firm offers. We took one offer and after they dilly dallied we told them we couldnt wait and offered the house to the second interested person who snapped off our arm and the move was complete in 8 weeks. Both came from the London area - over 120 miles away.
It may be more difficult if you have a house in a less desirable area or on an estate situation where lots of other properties are similar. But still worth a go to save money. In that case you could buy a for sale board for very little to advertise for local buyers in addition to a well worded ad in the local paper.0
