Accident-off work-benefit entitlement

Hi
My husband owns his own one man band company, I assist. He had a serious accident and has just had his arm reconstructed and is in a big frame to stop it from moving. He can walk a little bit (although he has to be careful not to knock the frame) but he cannot drive or work easily. As a result, the company income has suffered and we can only pay ourselves about £475 each a month. It is likely to be 6 months before he can restart work. We are in our 50s. We own our own house and have a mortgage. Our children are over 18 and working, although one lives at home.

Are there any benefits he or I can claim? Does it make any difference if we have any savings?

Thanks in advance for any help.

He may be eligible for DLA - he needs to have needed help for three months. You must also be expected to need help for at least a further six months.

Is the child that still lives at home able to contribute more? Savings will affect means tested benefits, but if you have savings, is there any reason that you cannot use them now you need them?
