Trying to sell some premium cigars on ebay.

I've got a rare hand made cigar box + "25 churchills" cigars hand made in the dominican republic. I've listed it on ebay twice now, but ebay have removed the auctions.
I have one person who is interested, but seems like he wants to pay direct into my bank via my sort code. He said it would take 4 days for his paypal payment to clear, I said I would wait, but he says he needs the cigars as a present tomorrow.
It seems like he doesn't want to pay via paypal. He then asked for my phone number. Am I being scammed? What should I do? I want to sell this cigar box + cigars. Total cost of £60.

I think you know how quick (or slow) Paypal is, generally faster than a direct payment into a bank account which does indeed take about four days.
Of course he MIGHT be genuine, and you could decide to trust him and send the cigars in time to be his present. Before doing so, I suggest you check his feedback, find out all you can about him and have a chat with him (you call him on his landline -- not the other way round). But since the post is not 100 per cent reliable you might invite him to come and collect the cigars, and in that case he could pay you cash.0 -
If he banks with the same bank as you then you should get the funds the same day. If not, then it can take up to 5 working days for the funds to arrive.
As a seller, receiving money this way is far safer than using Paypal. Once you've got the money, there's nothing the buyer can do to get it back, whereas with paypal, they can always do a chargeback if they want.
Whatever, I wouldn't send the cigars to him until you know you have definitely got the money by checking on-line or ringing your branch - don't just take his word that he's transfered it.0 -
Why would it take 4 days for a Paypal payment to clear? Usually, they go through instantly, though if you then want to withdraw the money to your bank a/c it takes yonks. If he wants something sent before payment is received, I would decline politely, explaining that it's nothing personal, but you have a policy never to send anything before receiving payment. If he can get to a branch of your bank, he should be able to pay instantly, and there shouldn't be any security problem with him having your bank details - the same information is on every cheque you write. Just don't tell him stuff like your mother's maiden name!0

He said it would take 4 days for him to transfer funds from his bank account into paypal, before he could pay me. Is he right? Why can't he just pay via paypal and automatically get the funds from his bank account? Since ebay won't let me list the cigars, how can I do the transaction with him safely?0

That'll be because you cannot sell tobacco on ebay. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
There may be instances where a particular collectable tobacco package is unopened and still contains tobacco. These sales of collectable tobacco items will be permitted so long as all of the following conditions are met:
- The value of the item is in the collectable packaging, not in the tobacco itself.
- The item description should state that the package has not been opened, but that the tobacco within is not for consumption.
- The collectable tobacco packaging must not be available at any retail outlet, and packaging must have a value that substantially exceeds the current retail price of that tobacco product in the package.
- Buyers and sellers are responsible for ensuring that any transaction involving tobacco complies with all applicable laws and postal regulations in carrying out the transaction.
I did state that the cigars I am selling are collectable. :-(0 -
Be careful about continually relisting after ebay have removed listings and issued a warning. You only get a few warnings before your account is suspended, so don't risk it.
