Focus Cmax throttle problems?

Hoping to get some help/advice.

For the last couple of days I have been noticing that my cmax seems to have lower power output. The revs seem lower than usual. Doesnt seem to accelerate as quick as it did.
I press my foot down hard to accelerate and revs hardly hit 3000 and I reach 4th gear at 30/32mph and revs are just over 1000.

I am not a mechanical genius as you can probably tell but I know there is something wrong. I put it down to new shoes at firstredface.gif

No matter how hard I push it I cant get revs much higher than 3000 before I reach 30mph no matter what gear I use.

Any ideas?

What sort of price would I be looking at for repair?

Any warning lights on the dashboard? From your problem description it sounds like the car has switched to it's emergency, 'get you home' mode - this often occurs if one of the sensors used by the car's ECU has failed.

  • i hate that feeling, very frustrating, i had it in my golf lots, this was a new car so cleaning the sensors didnt help, however on a car that has a few miles under its belt i would start by cleaning the sensors and their connectors

As i am not allowed to post a link, google c-max and look for ford c-max owners club online forum it should be the top hit , join the site its free and post there.
  • To answer a couple of the questions.

No there are no warning lights or management lights on.
I dont think its the get you home mode as I have been in that position before and that really limits the revs.

Its hard to explain. It just doesnt seem to pull fast enough. It is due a yearly service but I only do around 6000 to 7000 miles per year.

I had problems with it a few months ago cutting out power when I get to 3000 revs, someone suggested throttle control sensor problem and told me not to rest foot on gas pedal before starting. This solved the problem.
Dont know if that is linked or not.

When pulling away from lights or after going round a corner it just does not pull like it used to.

Maybe time to get that throttle control sensor checked?

  • I tend to agree, I am just hoping its not going to cost and arm and a leg this close to Christmas

So, do all the problems point to the throttle control?
