When you say vinegar in all these concoctions, do you mean the distilled stuff?

    Thanks

It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

i always use caustic soda (follow the instructions on the package and mix with right quantity of water, and don't get any on hands or in eyes! It gets very hot and fizzy!) from supermarket which hasn't failed me yet! Is this the same as soda crystals?
Proud to be dealing with my debts!;)

Most definitely not!! Caustic soda is very strong - thus wearing rubber gloves etc. Soda crystals are also known as washing soda and can be found in the laundry aisle. Whilst caustic soda does the job, it's a lot more toxic, so maybe it would be better if the vinegar/bicarb trick was tried regularly, as a sort of preventative measure.

(Which reminds me, I was going to do my shower plughole today cos it's gunged up. Off to do it now.... :D)

I use half a bag of soda crystal followed by hot water down all my sinks and the bath every few weeks, keeps the pipes clean as well :)

  • I know you asked for old style, but if all else fails Home Bargains sell Easy Sink & Pipe Unblocker which is just as good as Mr Muscle but it's only about 79p (can't remember exactly but it's way under £1) for 1.5 litres.
