Hi folks,
I've had a quick check of the cleaning index, but I can't find anything.
Can anyone please tell me an old style receipe for unblocking a plughole - everytime we have a shower, its not very nice wading through all the dirty water by the end! I did consider buying the Mr Muscle thing, but then saw the price!
Thanks very much

If it's in the bath it could be hair blocking the hole, try unwinding a wire coat hanger and using the hook bit feed it into the plughole and fishing out any balls of hair that might be blocking it.
If that doesn't work try a sink plunger but cover the overflow with a cloth whilst you're plunging.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Something I do is put a few teaspoons of bicarb of soda down the plug hole, then pour some white vinegar down it, then WHOOSH!!!! Leave it for about 30 mins then pour hot water down the plug hole. That normally works for me in the bath.Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

I thought of this - but no wire coat hangers to be found anywhere in my house, would you believe!
Will try the bicarb/vinegar/hot water thing.
Thanks very much to both of you!

No wire coat hangers? You must be posh.:D
I bet you've got some tweezers though. It's a slow and grimey job but you can pull up the gunk and hairs with the tweezers. Wear rubber gloves and have some tissue paper to wipe the gunk off the tweezers with.............and your sink plug hole will soon be clear again.
To help to prevent a build up of hair in the future, buy a mesh sink cover. Most supermarkets or Wilkinsons stores sell them for a couple of pounds.;)
Happy digging.:D

This has only happened in our kitchen sink and bicarb then vinegar does the trick. If it's hair etc in the shower, then a bit of digging around should help, followed by good ole bicarb then vinegar.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

there are some products available from diy stores (ie homebase, b&q) which do the same thing, but cost more than the above solution.
it is the fizz that does the trick, soap gloop and hair are notorious for blocking plugholes.
give the bicarb and vinigar a whirl.....smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Try household soda followed by really hot water - about two tablespoons and then repeat if that has not done the trick.2.00 COIN CLUB = £36.00  ! [/SIZE]

You could try plunging .Dont forget to block the overflow with cloth, put a couple of inches of water in then plunge. My dad used to use washing soda crystals when ours got bad.0

My bath plug has a screw in the middle I just undo it and pull out the hair on one big slimey gooey lump :rotfl: the sink plug I use a pair of tweesers to pull out any hair it has to be one of my least favourite jobs though0
