Bargain PC Deal

Hi, I'm always cautious on PC purchases, as with the depreciation, it just ends up 'dead money'. There is no resale value. People get carried away with features they will never use (including me:o ). So when you buy, factor it in.
On a mailing list I get, there is a great deal for anyone looking for a simple PC to surf the net, write letters and email. (i.e. mums and grans, not gameboys).
http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/shop/detail.asp?ProductID=3428
1 its cheap.
2, there is a 3 year guarantee, which says to me, for £235 you have guarenteed PC usage for 3 years after which time you might be looking for a new one anyway (and as it's virtually worthless by then you can give it away to a relative or charity).
Bundled with a 15 inch flat panel here for £320. Perfect deal for anyone looking for a nice small neat and compact setup.

Dell outlet is much better for these things - you can pick up a dual core for the same priceLink now removed! sorry0 -
I would not say Dell is much better after 2 years, we boutht a laptop we have had more than 20 service calls, including 4 new mother boards, 2 new displays, 2 or three new DVD drives, a full computer change and still ongoing problems and an inabilty to put porblems right on one occasion, it went in with a power problem and they replaced the USB port!
We obvously have a lemon, and durng the intial porblems we had a major battle getting them to replace thecomuter when out of 6 months more that half of the time it had spent in thier workshops for the same or simialr faults. Now we just deal with one of the managers in Irleand so we don't have to keep going through the entire prcess again each time.0 -
What appeals to me here is the 3 year guarantee feature as standard included in the purchase price of 235, which for the budget / non specialist user and 'sell me a box' shopper I think would inspire confidence in the purchase.
But I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this Dell outlet next time I'm in the market.0 -
I was interest in this deal so rung the company but was dissappointed to be told that it comes with operating system of windows xp only and no software except for Nero burning cdrom. There's no microsoft office or anything so would cost another hundred quid to buy that on ebay so it's put me off.0

The vast majority of PC's wont come with Office, most want you to buy it as an extra, some do use Works suite which is pretty crap and if you are that bothered about the software, use some of the free stuff available, there used to be one called Star or buy a second hand copy of Office from eBay0 -

There was star office but there is also open office which works a treat as I use it all the time.
No problems saving as a .doc and others have seem to have no problems opening them.

Buy it off ebay and technically it's illegal. I would say from experience that Works is actually better than Office - less bugs and macro vulnerabilities and yes, Open Office is the best Open Source software for nothing...0 -

Just kidding, there is no need to spend money on Office software, you can download OpenOffice from https://www.openoffice.org - it looks and feels like a professional office suite and as it's open source, it is continually being updated.
If you find a system that you feel is suitable for you, you really need not worry about software any longer, there are so many free alternatives out there that are often as good as, and in some instances better than, their retail counterparts.0
