Capital One

I really wish I'd never taken a credit card out with Capital One!

I recieved my card just before a summer holiday and had nothing but problems ever since.
Used it as planned on holiday and when I got home, I wanted to pay it off in full so I phoned up and tried explaining this but was told I could not pay off my card until my first statement arrived.

I put the card in the back of my drawer and forgot all about it. A while later I get a call from a phone number demanding I give over my details, I refused obviously... the person on the other line not identifying themselves or their affiliation with capital one. A week or two later I found the card and contacted Capital One and recieved some very bad customer service. They demanded I pay charges for missing a payment (though I had recieved no statements) and as the sky high interest rate had taken me over my limit, I had to pay charges on that too?

After explaining I tried to pay it off, and was made redundant 2 weeks later they couldn't care less and demanded I pay in full or would send bailiffs. Now a couple weeks down the line I'm looking at a statement that reads a list of various charges ammounting to almost double what I spent and still looking for a way out of this.

Any suggestions?
I'm getting around 5 phone calls a day from different numbers that I have googled and are identified as Capital One.

really? i doubt the story entirely.
you got the card for your summer holiday, brand new credit account, then went to pay it off before the statement date? that means you had readies, why not take the cash abroad?
you then put your card safe and 'forget about the bill' after just using it on holiday, all this time you never used their automated telephone pay your bill service, or pay online?
i cant be bothered to continue.....good luck but ive used them for 10 years and no problems.

I've had a few problems in the past with Capital One but that's because I was an idiot when I was younger and thought that not paying my bills was a good idea and wouldn't really cause any problems (Oh how wrong and stupid I was). But I must admit that they have been fine and no problems since I started paying my bills on time and keeping on top of them.

I doubt very much they would send the bailiffs round though because they didn't even threaten me with that when I hadn't paid them for 5 months. They racked up a load of charges but not a mention of courts or bailiffs so I wouldn't worry about that. Just pay what you owe them and they won't be a problem.

They can't send round bayliffs until they have been to the county court. Somehow I get the feeling you are not telling us the whole story.
  • I too have had a capital one card for ages with no problems - you can pay online (at any time once there is something to pay ie, you don't have to wait for a statement), over the phone or by post so really there is no excuse. I don't get paper statements from them either as my statements are online. I don't see how you could have forgotten this as you were so keen to pay it in the first place.

So how many payments have you actually made, and how much money does that amount to? How much is the current balance?

OP is also complaining about charges for being overdrawn on her bank account. In all reality OP needs to get a grip on reality.

This is nothing to do with Capital One.

This is you having incredibly poor financial management.
Why is it, when anyone get charges they ALWAYS blame the banks when its the customer that cannot abide by simple terms and conditions.

The Gazelle thinks you should concentrate on getting a job writing fiction, since you have no job now, as this seems so far fetched, it beggers belief.

Bailifs after one missed payment, have never heard of anything like it before, you usually only get to that stage after several missed payments, and defaults and CCJs etc, so as your no where near this stage, I feel this is slightly romanced.

No Credit Card Company would refuse a payment before the statement is produced, again total and utter nonsense, you can pay what you want, when you want and how you want, before any statement is given to you, and as Capital One take Debit Card Payments over the phone, this is no excuse, they actually put you through to an automated system, which takes your card payment for you, and you key in the amount you wish to pay, I should know, I have been a Capital One Customer for nearly seven years.

Had I of not received a statement after a said time, I would have phoned them up and found out when my billing cycle was, and found out when the first payment or statement would be due, as then you can make a decision whether that time in the month is convenient for you, and if not you have the chance to change it.

Whilst this tale may well be true, your probably hiding more of the facts than we think, as bailiff tales and the such, only occur if your deeper in the old brown stuff than you have actually let on, this site is for genuine advice, not for reviews as to someone's next fictional novel, The Gazelle wishes you good luck, and hope the bailiffs choose your furniture wisely.

Personally I like a little more reality in my fiction.
