Bought car but V5 not signed!

Hello, I am hoping someone could help me here. I am a learner driver so all very new to this.
My sisters bf buys and sells cars, so I decided to buy one. Came complete with log book MOT history etc and clean HPI check. But as I was just filling in the new keeper part on the V5 I noticed it says that by law both seller and buyer must sign form- which they have failed to do. My sis bf was not the last registered keeper (he just bought to sell on). Would he be able to sign it?
If I sign and send off my part without the last keepers sig will DVLA still accept it? Or do I have to try and track down the last registered keeper (last registered march 2008)? I've just rang him (sis bf) and he said not to worry, they never check and to just put any old name for the last keeper. But of course I don't want to do that as that would be fraud!
What makes this worse is I've just paid online for car insurance!
Any help on the situation would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I do not want to get into any trouble (not had much luck lately so don't want to risk anything) so shall I get sis bf to sign it- seeing as he was the seller to me (although not registered keeper)?
Ty again :santa2:0 -
the V5 isnt signed if the car was sold to him as a trader - the previous owner would have just signed a tear-off slip, that would be forwarded to DVLA to say that the BF although 'owning' the car, would not be formally registered as the owner, otherwise this would put an additional owner on the cars history, iyswim
the BF however, should now sign the V5 to say he has sold the car, and then send that off to DLVA with your details - giving you the new owner tear-off slip

Hi flea72, I do not know where he bought it from (I know sounds dodgy, but he is trustworthy) but I do have the former registered keepers part of the form- traders form still attached.
Ty. I am now wondering, will my insurance be cancelled as I am not named registered keeper yet?

Fill out your details in Section 6 and sign as new keeper in Section 8. Leave registered keeper's signature blank. Attach letter explaining as you did in your first post.
You should get V5 in your name in 2-4 weeks
