ps3 YLOD

Seems my PS3 has the "yellow light of death". Anyone know how much it's going to cost me to fix it and if it's likely to have the same thing happen to it again in a few months time? I've had it about 2 years now so it's not under warranty.

You can sign up for PlayNow, sony's pay replacements. You can sign up whenever you like, get your PS3 sent off and just cancel... All for under £10. My friend did it with his 60gb, warranty had ended but they still took it and had it fixed, then he cancelled with them and he wins!

sony stopped continuous play quite a while ago now due to people abusing the system (like the example above).

That would have been handy if they still did it. Any idea how much it would cost me to fix it at an independant computer shop? My new CoD is stuck in it :mad: .

Sony will charge you £128, give you a refurb unit (all your game saves etc gone), take months to send you your game back and give you a whopping 3 mth warranty......

To get all your data from the hard drive the YLOD must be fixed on that ps3 as you can't remove the hard drive & put it into another ps3 (it will always format it). You could always try to fix it yourself with a heat gun & following Gilksey's guide on youtube...

Same thing happened to me and i got it replaced with a slim for FREE (even though my ps3 was out of warranty) by sending a letter to the shop I originally bought it from. I suggest you search through the threads for a thread started by Thanatos i think it is. or just type in ylod in the search bar at the top and click in forums from the drop down bar and the thread should be in the search results if you scroll down. Anywho, the thread will tell you how to get it replaced. PM if u have any problems. Good luck!

If you're still there, I believe Sony are going to launch another replacement service with tighter rules as to when you can send the PS3 in. Also, there are people complaining about their phat PS3's breaking and there is something happening where all owners of the PS3 from 2007, (phat model), will be covered in a case against Sony. Not sure of the details but it looks pretty promising.

Another thing, if you have the money, i'd go out and buy a slim for the time being. Very impressed with them and how the cope in my 30oC bedroom!
