Outlook Express & TalkTalk emails - Help please

Options
Hi,

I have been using Talktalk email for years but recently found, by accident, that when I launched Outlook Express I can view all my TT emails from there. This seemed OK.

I then logged onto TT email and found that my Inbox was completely empty.
I was not expecting to see this as I thought I can view my emails from both places. Obviously not.

Can someone explain what has happened please? and
Can I go back to using TT email rather than Outlook Express? if so, how?

Thanks in advance.

Outlook Express by default will download emails via POP3 and then delete them from the server - so you won't be able to view them by Webmail. The reason it hasn't happened before is because you haven't run OE since you set up your TalkTalk.
You can change the default behaviour in OE by going to tools >accounts >mail >select your account >advanced tab >select to leave a copy on server.
You should the be able to use both.

    Hi davb,

    Thanks for your advice.

I have done as you've suggested. I then logged into the TT Webmail and the Inbox is still empty. Any idea how long does it take to get the Inbox folder to be as it was before?

I guess I don't need to change any settings in TT Webmail.

    Kind regards.

It won't put them back as they have already been deleted from the server - it will only stop OE deleting any new ones.
The only way I can think to get them back to your Webmail would be to forward them all to yourself from OE, but that is messy.

    Hi again davb,

Earlier, I sent an email from OE to myself to the TT account.
I received the email on OE but not on TT's webmail...it's still empty. That was over 1.5 hrs ago.
    Any ideas?

Also, fyi, all the emails in the TT webmail folders which I had, have all gone and they are not even in OE. Hmmm.

    Thanks.
    Regards.

    Hi davb,

OK, I closed OE and TT and then sent an email from my works account to TT.

This time the email was in the TT inbox. Which is good.
I then logged to OE and saw the same email there. No probs.
As I was still logged onto TT webmail, I looked into the inbox and it was empty again ! why had that email disappeared? just cos I looked at it in OE?

Also, I now see the emails in my 'suspect' folders in TT. Cool.

    Thanks again.
