Cheers for that - I obviously wasn't in the loop when that was announced. Sounds like it would make sense to be honest. Less queuing at the post office for hoilday money anyway.
This is no laughing matter my friend.
While it sounds liberating and convenient (and this is how it will be presented to the people) a cashless society would equate to totalitarianism in all but name.
It would have to be run alongside some sort of ID card without which you not be able to do anything - buy food, petrol, pay bills, buy a pint, take a cab etc. - basically go about your everyday life.
And of course, a system which allowed you do these things would also be a system which could deny you the same things.
The slightest admin. hiccup or perceived wrongdoing on your part would mean that the press of a button prevents you from obtaining basic goods and services.
It is very, very bad news."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Read A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Attwood. This is exactly what happened there.0 -

One of the things I love about this forum is the sheer certainty of a lot of comments. Never "I think", or "I reckon", just complete and utter certainty. I genuinely like it.
Not sure what breeds it to be honest. I guess I was more cocksure and certain of my opinions why I was a teenager, but as I got older I started to question more and be more comfortable with the idea that my opinions could change; that I didn't need to pretend I knew everything and that I as often wrong. Quite liberating really.
I think there is likely to be a strong correlation between the youth of posters and the certainty of their views.
See! I've given away my middle age with the above........In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -

And was a work of fiction. Which given the original post is strangely on-topic.0 -

As a "young" 46 year old, I'll take that as a compliment."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

It's coming.
It's just a pity the internet as we know it will not be around for me to accept your humble apologies as you bow to my powers of prediction."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Well, as I'm reliant on credit cards / cash machines to get hold of this kinda stuff anyway, I'm already held to account by 'the man'.
Just so we're on the same page (and sorry for all the questions), but why would a totalitarian government want to stop me buying a pint? I feel like I should know the answer at this point, but I just can't think of a logical reason why this new world order would be bothered by me having a pint of Old Speckled Hen in my local.
I'm still seriously blown away that you're 46. I just assumed you were 14. Sorry about that.0
