Hi
Sorry I have trawled the boards for this question but didn't really find anything.... firstly my circumstances - live with parents, no kids or carer duties.
In September I was made redundant a job that paid almost £21k... started claiming JSA at the start of November. Found a job on 2nd Dec that pays £7.50ph leave this at Xmas (temp assignment)
Just managed to get myself a full time job in a nursery starting 4th Jan. As am going in unqualified (career changer) the pay is minimum wage of £5.80 per hour. Someone told me I can claim tax credits, but when I do the assessment it's asking for last years income, which was obviously £21k. But I'm not on that wage now, I'm on minimum wage!!!
Does this mean I cannot claim any tax credits? If not is there any other help I can get?

they ask for last year's income on the claim form too, this is just to establish your award. Based on last year's income you are unlikely to be awarded (initially). Once you receive the award notice you would then call the helpline and advise of your new current year income.
Give them a call now (open til 8pm) and the can give you an estimate of wtc
