I just went in the fridge and noticed there's 2 chocolate eclairs (the ones with cream in) with a eat before date, they went out of date yesterday. Should i chance eating them or will i end up being ill?

I would try a little taste of the cream to see if it still tastes all right, and if it does, I'd chance it
I've certainly eaten things with fresh cream which were a day out of date, with no ill-effects.0 -
Providing the cream does not smell off and since purchase you have followed the refrigeration guidelines i.e. not left sitting on the side or in the boot of the car for a good few hours before making it in to the fridge then i would risk it.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Yesterday I ate some bread and butter pudding that I made with a brioche loaf that was 4 days out of date, served with cream that was 3 days out of date, and I'm still here with no ill effects. With the exception of shellfish (and, to a certain extent, pork and chicken) I trust my nose and my tastebuds.0

i agree with the smell and taste test, that should be sufficient
we must remember just because it has a date on it doesn't mean it automatically/magically goes off, just the other day i opened a package of bacon i had in the fridge for awhile, i didn't put it in the freezer as it was full and it SAID it was good til dec 23... i'd brought it straight home (walked home through the freezing wind too so it was chilled all the way) my fridge is very very cold on the lowest setting... anyway, i opened it, a vacumn sealed packet and it stank of rotten eggs!
the point i'm making is that sometimes you need to use your senses for a judgement call... not all of the bacon smelled (1kg package) but i threw it all away as i didn't want to risk it with that smell, even though i technically had nearly 3 weeks left that it was supposed to be OK to eat!
unless your stomach is weak if you don't catch dairy that is starting to turn with the smell or taste test you will be unlikely to suffer any ill effects from it, i say go for it!0 -
Thanks for all the replys, i'll give them a try after ive ate my tea tonight... if their off im sure i'll taste it then, with milk i can usually taste its "on the turn" 2 days before it starts that floating in the tea malarky, so im sure if the cream is off i will know.
I just wasnt sure if cream would still taste ok if its still off.
Just gotta hope my mam hasnt chucked them out, she just chucked the end off a packed of m&s garlic sausage out cos it was opened on friday and said "use with in 3 days".0 -
