We've just had someone at the door who says they are from Scottish Hydro but dont actually work for them, they are contracted by the government to check to see if the energy companies are passing on some sort of discount, (something to do with them all being overseas now and the tax payments) and to see if we qualify for a discount, if we do what will happen is we will stay with our current supplier but Scottish Hydro will top us up.
I was in a rush so didnt have time to speak to him fully about it all and he is coming back tomorrow. I see what he is saying but Im kinda confused about it all. Has anyone else had someone like this call?

i think from reading on the boards, they try come in and get your meter number and switch you to someone else and get commision
i could be wrong.. but i personally wouldn't let them in:T:money::T0 -
he kept saying he wouldnt switch us but all the alarm bells kept ringing. He kept going thru a list of questions and marking them off. I told him I didnt want to switch supplier and he said he wasnt here to do that. He did take metre readings but said what he needed was a bill to look at what we are charged by unit which I didnt have to hand.

This is a crude doorstepping attempt, pure and simple. Don't let him in, don't talk to him, don't whatever you do sign anything. If you want to switch suppliers, do so after doing your own research on one of the comparison sites, not via a cold calling salesperson.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Ask for his identification and find out who he really works for.
Then explain you want to check this out and call his employer directly on a number you know to be correct (not one he gives you)
If in any doubt, dial 999 and ask for the police!"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

He'll need a bit more info, but will probably get that when he gets your meter readings."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Scottish Hydro are part of SSE. (Scottish & Southern Electric).
Surely any employee or government official would know that SSE is a UK based company?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... He only needs your meter reference numbers, that's why he wanted to see a bill, the next thing you will see is a sorry you are leaving letter.
Do ring your supplier and tell them what happened.
I'd ring SSE as well to complain about their agents blatant lies.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
