How do I find companies who won't fleece me?

Hi there.
I am new to this site and I am looking for some help. I am moving house soon and I will need to sign up with gas/elec/water etc suppliers.
Can anyone give me any advise on how to find the cheapest? I don't want to be conned by companies offering me deals and upping their prices after a few months. Especially, as a single woman, I feel vunerable when shopping around as all the information is baffling, and I find it quite confusing. I need a good deal and I haven't the first clue how to go about it.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Laura.

Welcome to the forum.
At first you will have no option. You will have to use the gas, electricity and water that is already connected; so make sure you read the meters as soon as you move in.
With gas and electricity you can then move to another company(it takes several weeks), however with water you are stuck with that company.
Depending on the size of house, insulation etc you can go on a comparison website and guess(estimate) your consumption in kWh to find the best suppliers.
There are some tariffs that are fixed for a set period, but usually(not always) they are more expensive.
It is perfectly possible that the prices might rise just after you have selected a tariff, they could fall! The signs are they they won't rise in the next few months - but that could change.0
