Choosing the Christmas tree, then putting it in the house on Christmas Eve morning and decorating it as the last thing in the house to decorate before youngest's bedtime. Both children (one of whom is 24!) diving into our bed with everyone's stockings at about 7.00 am. Opening one proper present each before church on Christmas morning, then no opening until after sherry and mince pies when we get back. The waiting is fab - honest!
That sounds like us - all pile into our Parents bed to open our stockings
  • hubby and me have the new pjs the night before and as we are both massive kids we wake up proper early to open our pressies to each other, we take turns picking which one the other will open next.

then we go and see the parents/ grandparents that we arent eating with, this year it will be his followed by going to my parents house where my grandparents and auntie and cousins who live down south will be. after our meal we play charades and the like

boxing day my mil puts on a buffet and we see his extended family

the day after we always have a do at our house for our mates but im not very well this year so im not sure what will happen, hopefully i will be able to last the whole xmas bit without getting too bad

  • As we don't have children we dont have that many traditions. My OH is working all of xmas eve which is a shame as we usually spend the day together but I always make sure the house is spottless, xmas scented candles are lit, presents under the tree, xmas music is on (well until OH comes home as he's a bit ba humbug about that obsession).

I will usually have watched on of my girlie xmas movies earlier that day and probably cried to it (The Holiday / Love Actually etc). But we'll watch TV curled up on the sofa.

For tea we always have my xmas eve buffet. Its a tradition from my parents and being younger. We always had a buffet so you could graze on lovely bits before the xmas day food onslaught! This year I'm going for more home made stuff so some of that will keep me busy!!

My favourite tradition for Christmas is the way we spend Christmas eve, we aim to make it as relaxing but fun as possible for everyone.

We wake up to our "Christmas hampers", put on our new PJs out of it, children play with the activities in the hamper (this year I have colouring/puzzle books), We have a no cook lunch (this year its a picnic in the lounge), watch a few movies, at about 4:30 we take it in turns to have a bath each, with our new bath goodies. After OH has come home from work, had his bath & put on his PJs we get takeaway pizza (we only have this about once a year, takeaway pizza that is, not baths :) ). We settle the kids down with a new Christmas movie, and a mug of warm chocolate. When they've gone to bed OH & I break out an alcoholic drink and the ferror roche we have stashed away while we wait for the kids to doze off. Then we bring the pressies down and arrange them. Before going to bed we open a present that my in-laws put to one side for us to open on xmas eve. Its normally a pair of socks or similar but nice to have somethign to open early.
