ps, FWIW, I'm not a fan of Gloss at all!0

Woodwork should be be white gloss.
Undercoat several coats, as this is the "colour", gloss is only the hard, opaque top cover that takes the knocks.
Plenty of preparation for a final coat of new, fresh, good quality gloss.
(Only one gloss coat, gloss does not go over gloss)0 -
What do you mean by this TS?Woodwork should be be white gloss.0

be be ?? Typo, read that as just, "be". Sorry about that letting things slip today. Thanks.0

lol, no a genuine question, I thought it was meant to say something else! Why should it 'be' white gloss in your opinion?0

i'm fascinated to know how the undercoat is supposed to provide the colour when the top coat is opaque!
Gloss just looks so dated...satinwood and eggshell far nicer in the home.
Nothing wrong with 2 coats of gloss done it countless times in the past. I just checked dulux website and every gloss paint accept Dulux Once says requires 2 coats.
Whilst looking at Dulux website i see they now have help videos in their advice section (not had a chance to view myself yet)

I did a lot of research into this topic, and learnt the hard way that sanding a previously varnished/glossed surface to provide a "key" for adhesion isn't necessary.
What you need to do is:
1) Clean surface properly with sugar soap to remove all dirt and grime
2) Find your nearest Dulux decorators centre, and buy some Dulux trade super grip primer:
http://www.duluxdecoratorcentre.co.uk/servlet/ProductHandler?code=DDC10033
3) Buy some crown trade eggshell oil paint to finish, and apply 2 thin coats.
The paints will cost more than b&q's rubbish, but its much much better quality, and will give you better results.0 -
