Problems paying Provident, now have delayed Default

I really hope you guys can help me out here. I have been working to sort out my credit rating for a number of years and finally in april next year I will have no defaults and a pretty good credit record. However, that is now all in jepardy due to Provident.

Ok, the situation is this. I had a loan through them, simply for the fact it was easy and I needed the cash fast. I borrowed £1000 with some stupid interest rate, meaning I owed them something like £1600 over the space of a year. All was good, until our local collection agent retired. The new agent would come round to collect at times when no-one was in. Whilst this happened, I moved to a different area. I contacted Provident to say I wanted to get this sorted and despite one conversation with a manager, they have only replied in writing to my old address. It has taken months for me to get them to realise that I have moved!!

Anyway, the new area collection agent would also come round at times that wouldn't suit me. I have offered to pay by DD, I've even offered to drop the money round to the agent. They wont accept these options and I have been at logger heads with them.

Now I have just received a letter stating a Service of Default Notice, dated November the 13th!!

They state that my balance was £770 but now must pay £830 in full or else it will go to court.

I am absolutly gutted by this and have no idea what to do. I am in a right mess over this and can't believe that all my hard work over the past 10 years or whatever have been in vain and my credit will be ruined for another 6 years.

Please, can someone offer me some advice? is thier anyway I can get this default removed before it causes me even more issues?

  • It has dawned me that I should also have said that this default notice was sent to my previous address, one I have not lived at for over a year. I have informed Provident of this several times over the past few months. This is why I have only just recieved a letter dated the 13th November.

Surely they can't put a Default on me when I just want to pay it and without telling me that they are doing so?!?

I am so upset by this it is unreal.... :(

provident report to experian only so it will be on your credit file for 6 years
  • thanks yes I am aware of that, I think I said so in my original Post. What I would like however is advice on this, as I am trying my best to give my money to Provident, but they dont seem to want it and just seem to want to screw up my credit score!
  • You can pay by debit card over the phone on 0800 916 6440
    I have a cunning plan!

Trouble is I can't. For one thing, I don't really like giving my card details out over the phone. For another, I can't make calls to 0800 numbers from work. This means I'd have a stupidly short amount of time on a Saturday to contact them from my mobile.

Maybe can't is the wrong word. Would really prefer not to?

I want to hand my money over to them, in person, just as I had done for about 3 years prior to this loan and as I agreed to when I took it out.

incidentally, can a default be enforced if it is issued to the wrong address?

    Hi,

If you have a branch near you, you can take it to them and they will sign your book. That was how I paid my loan off, every fortnight I would go my nearest branch because I was working different hours every week.

  • I've also just read this:
consumeractiongroup . co . uk/forum/debt-collection-industry/98122-provident-personal-credit-sent.html (trying to get round this wierd link ban thing)

is it worth me trying this as well? Asking for the CCA? I remember siging a really dodgy piece of paper that looked to me like the agent was on the take, but didn't question it as I need the money.

I did question them about this when it suddenly appeared on my credit report about 6 months ago, out of the blue. They said that it was now standard proceedure for it to go on there, but wonder why it wasn;t previosuly?

Sorry OP but it seems like you have some kind of hidden agenda here.

If the agent has not been around to collect then presumably you have all of your repayments set aside in your bank account and can arrange a mutually convenient time for them to come and collect.

Don't want to give your card details over the phone? Can't find the time to make a five minute call..... Please.....

Your last post is a bit odd, if you signed an agreement then the total borrowed and repayable would be on there. Why do you think that the agent is on the take? He/She has not collected any payments from you recently anyway....

What is the problem with Provident reporting to a credit reference agency? It is a credit account after all.....

Sounds like you are just trying to get out of paying your debt TBH.

You can ring 0800 numbers free from any phone box.
You can use http://www.0800buster.co.uk/ to call 0800 numbers using a 'normal' number.

It appears purely from reading, you are trying to find obstacles to not pay this.
