Electric shower not working after new boiler put in

I've got a Triton electric shower, only about a year or so old, which was working fine until recently. Our old CH boiler was condemned and while we waited for a new one to be installed, we relied heavily on the electric shower which was fine. This worked independently of the immersion heater.

However, since the installation of the new Worcester Bosch boiler (in loft now, no longer downstairs) the shower is really unreliable and only seems to produce hot water when there is a plentiful supply of hot water in our tank. Could the fitters have accidentally changed something while installing the new boiler? It's two months since they were here now - would it be reasonable to take the matter up with them?

Electric showers should be direct from the rising main.

  • OK, so do you think it isn't any more, or has something gone wrong with the shower itself? Why is there only hot water when there is some available from the CH system?

As bryanb said, electric showers must be connected to the mains not a tank or anything else. I would phone the plumber/heating engineer and explain the problem to them and explain it happened when the boiler was fitted.

A quick test would be to have the shower running and turn off the incoming water (often under the kitchen sink) The shower should stop running. No need to have the electricity to the shower on while doing this check.
Also if you're getting hot water (From Shower) with the elec supply to the shower off, there is a serious mix up with the pipes.

Might just be a coinsidence,And the shower just broke it would not be unusal,Electric showers run off a Cold water feed from the nearest point and heat up thier own water like the o/p's have already said,Also bear in mind some electric showers will not do anything with the power off.
