Need to strip some paint from door frame and skirting..
Seen the adverts on TV, but I am interested in what others do..
I quite like avoiding smells and harsh chemicals. However the most important thing for me is not spending much money

sorry haven't heard of Readystrip - have only used Nitromors in the past - but i don't think it is very enviromentally friendly and you definitely need to have good ventilation as it pongs a bit
Edit meant to add that despite the drawbacks it did do a very good job of removing the layer of paint"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
happy travels !!

Go to work with 1.9l of Ready Strip Paint and Varnish Remover! Simply paint a layer of the paste onto the surface you want to clean, leave and then simply scrape away the paste and paint/varnish to reveal the wood beneath! Note: Rubber gloves and safety goggles are recommended for use0 -

Alternative to chemicals is either hot air blower and sanding.
I stripped paint from door, window frame, skirting and picture rail using hot air blower then sanding. I did have about 10 layers of paint, varnish and stain to remove though!
Takes a while, is a messy job, stinks, but I got a cracking finish. Also proved quicker than using nitromors as I gave this a go and it just took forever. Still had to sand afterwards.
Using a hot air blower tended to be quicker than using chemicals, and made just as much mess. A word of warning though, if you do decide to go down this route check how old the paint is, as it may conain lead. Not good to have that in the air where you are working.0 -
Argos have a Paint stripper for £9.99 I've used a paint stipper in the past (not this one) and found it very good, it takes time but you don't have a chemical smell that lingers for days. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0
