new to the share dealing world and have a few thousand shares in company i work for through a sharesave and reward scheme, and want to buy some more in anothe coupel of companies, i was going to use first direct as my offset mtg is with themand its £10 a trade, but lots seem to rate selftrade? Much difference in the 2 (apart from selftrade being £12.50 a trade), or are share trading sites pretty much like for like?

Self trade now have an annual fee, introduced around Oct this year, as well as the £12.50
Not sure of FD fee or not, it was free when I was with them but do not know knowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

As far as I can tell they only started trading in November (that's the earliest reference I can find to them) so you are unlikely to get much feedback.0

Cheers people
Farway, mind of i ask why you dont use FD anymore? Stopped dealing or changed to another sharedealer?
Think Selftrade charge £35 a year fee but am i right you get 3 free trades for that fee but they must be made in first month of opening acct, or the month payment comes out?
Thanks again guys0 -
I use Halifax and Selftrade. If you don't have an ISA, then Halifax works out cheaper, but I do have my current account with them.
Selftrade have had some issues with their trading platform this year, which, on top of their charge hike, left a fair few clients a bit disgruntled. I haven't needed to trade recently, so don't know whether it is better now. I haven't seen so many complaints on the bulletin boards, so hope it is.Debbie0 -

I stopped using FD because they did an upgrade to their software, and for whatever reason I just could not use the FD site, FD tried all sorts, including taking remote control of my PC, but eventually admitted a "few" people had this problem
If it had not been for the fact I just could not use the site I would still be with FD. FWIW the FD site now works on my PC, so whatever the snag they did fix it
Having said that I find Selftrade fine, but I am not a day trader or shares whizz, so my needs are simple and it works for me
PS free trades, had them this year when fee introduced, unknown if they will continue or timing, just hope so as I leave my dividends in and buy shares when enough cash availableEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Cannot recommend Selftrade at all. So far so all OK with https://www.iii.co.uk £10 per trade no ongoing fee. No charge for ISA management either.0

Your choice of course, just like to say today Selftrade phoned me today to inform me I did not have enough cash in my ISA account to take up the Lloyd's rights issue I had opted for, they had sent me secure messages but I had not read them
If it were not for the phone call I would have lost my buy, or been in the red.
I consider this good service, but as I said before, my needs are simple & few and it works for me so far, however the iii deal sounds a good oneEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I moved to the halifax, no annual charges just £12.50 a trade.
The site is not as friendly as selftrades.
I have just brought a load of a certain share which should have a 20% increase in the next 4 months... Is insider knowledge illegal?? Or just illegal for directors??0 -
Knowledge of your own company is fine. Feel free to share the info with us or the symbol even
If the company is obliged to release some RNS info and you trade just beforehand with that knowledge then it would be unfairwhich should have
nothing wrong with selftrade, iii is a bit cheaper but doesnt allow for free stop loss orders, etc0
