Access..help please?

I'm trying to do something on access, and I need to be able to add together cells.
So I've got Cell A and then Cell B and Cell C needs to be the result of them both.

Any idea how I do this? I've searched, but I can't seem to find anything :S

Write a query something like this:

    SELECT SUM(A)
    FROM your_table

    or

    SELECT SUM(A), SUM(B), SUM(C)
    FROM your_table

    or

    SELECT SUM(A + B + C)
    FROM your_table

What data-types are you working with? i.e. intergers, decimal, money etc?

  • It's time...
There's Time 1 then Time 2, and I want it to add them together to get total times. It's in minutes and seconds, so 00:00:00.

    Thank you so much!

Can you give me a better idea of the type of Access Application you are working on please? So do you want to display a sum of all of column A then column B etc or do you want to display the sum of all three columns?
Further information will help me find the answer to your question.

    Regards

  • Sorry, I think I confused it a bit...
It read like this...Team Member, Team ID, Time 1, Time 2, Total Time. I want access to add Time 1 and Time 2 together, and put it in Total Time. So it will tell me who was fastest, if that makes sense?

Thank you so much, I've been trying to find the answer to this for days!

Ok, now we are cooking! So how do you want the total displayed? i.e. in days, hours etc?

  • Yay :D Can it display it in the same format? So seconds? The times are usually only a few seconds each time so I don't think they'll add up to be a minute.

    Thank you!! :)

Here is the first example, this will show you how many hours have elapsed between time1 and time2:

    SELECT DATEDIFF("h",Time1,Time2) AS TotalTime
    FROM your_table;

    Edit:

Replace the "h" operator with "s" and it will give you the value in seconds.

So just to clarify, I just copy that across but put "Times" instead of your_table (the table is called Times) or do I copy it exactly?

    Sorry, I'm terrible with Access!!

Ok, copy my SQL query syntax and replace your_table with Times.
If you create a new query in design view in Access, when the box asking you to select a table appears just click close. you will see a form with grid lines, on the top menu select view and select SQL View, you will see a white background and just past the code in there. Press the ! button above the form and you should see your results.
