I have the Clix Safe harness & it's fantastic, failing that a grille? Cages apparently are the most dangerous form of restraint but etter than nothing & i'm not sure if a grille would work being a hire car x

You do nto say what dog have you got?

Will a crate/cage fit in the car?

If so and if you have to leave the dog alone in a car - I would go for a cage.

We have a cross Staff who is small and thin. Thanks for everyones advice. We are going to get a harness and she can have a blanket on the back seat as well. We are going to take the cage as well just in case but it does infact say its recommended so will most likely take her up with us. I have been on the ferry before but not with a dog and the bit you go in isn't all that bad and its only for less than an hour.
  • My dog spends most of the day in a cage in my car and copes well with it (though he has done it since a puppy so is used to it) I would defo recommend a cage, I did tried to let him have the run of the car once he got older, but after 2 days of this I came back to a chewed steering wheel, he went straight back in the cage! Also the tonne of dog hair that he manages to lose isn't all over the car, and as you will be hiring a car this would probably better! Anyway good luck!!

and he does love his cage - I park next to her at work quite a bit, and her dog (captainprincess') is always asleep snoring his head off.... :)
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup
