Advice re benefits please...

I apologise if this is in the wrong place (and I have done a search!) :confused:
Fact is that my OH has worked all his life until he became unable to continue being S/E ( removals)...he had sickness benefit but was then turned down after a medical and tribunal. They say he is fit for work! :mad: (If he was, he would take on jobs from the business!).
Ok, so NO sick pay (despite doctor's certificate!!) ...he is going to see if he can claim jobseeker's allowance but for that he has to sign as being fit for work (he is just not!) :rolleyes:
Is there another benefit that would apply to us..please does anyone know?? We have no income coming in or virtually nothing?!! We have never been in this situation and nobody in authority is very forthcoming with any info??!!
Many thanks for any suggestions. x

    If the Tribunal has found him fit for work, then he needs to find a way to return to work. Do you disagree with the findings of the Tribunal? Did they err on a point of law?

    The tribunal decision refers to whether he can do ANY work rather than his normal occupation so he needs to consider what work he can do. Ay present he should be looking for work and claiming means tested JSA as well as HB/LHA/CTB etc.

    He can do NO work...I won't go into all his medical problems on here, problems include worrying memory loss too.......
    Please, we have no idea what JSA and HB/LHA/CTB are?? (But thank you for telling us that other allowances may be available as we are now extremely concerned).....thank you. x

    JSA = Jobseekers Allowance.

    HB = Housing Benefit.

    LHA = Local Housing Allowance.

    CTB = Council Tax Benefit.

    Disability living allowance (DLA) may apply to him to - if he has care and /or mobility which have lasted for 3 months and are expected to last at least another 6.

    If his medical condition worsens / he is diagnosed with something extra, then I believe he can reapply for employment support allowance (I'm assuming that's the sickness benefit he was on). The appeal is supposed to consider his health as it was at the medical, in my area you wait 5-6 months for one. So if he's worse since he had the ATOS medical, you could see if you can apply for ESA again.

    I hope this helps.
