bristolleedsfan wrote: »Had it been someone merely making posts with copying and pasting of posts from other sites contained within them nothing would have got said at least not by me, as it was someone was making a point about "my" postings "often" containing links from other sites without the use of coping and pasting of posts from other sites having previously posted asking if I could as a matter of course copy and paste posts from other sites within my posts rather than just post links to other site forums which I had been taking the time out to both source and post to give information to other users of this thread whom if were interested in the subject matter could themselves take the time out to click the supplied link and read the post from the other sites forum.
In the first instance I was merely answering as to why "I" "often" didnt copy and paste other peoples posts from other sites onto MSE Forums within "my" posts as a matter of course, subsequently during the course of normal forum dialogue their were as a matter of fact inaccuracies posted in relation to the subject of copyright.:)
The post I made, and to which you refer (See Here) was simply to save others who were interested in the message the need to leave this site, and was not intended as a criticism of you, nor was I “making a point” as you seem to think. There was nothing in that post other than thanks to you for the link, the actual quote and a relevant comment, and as far as I could see nothing that anyone could take offense at, so your comment (underlined above) is hard to understand. In fact you had made several derisory references to my post before I felt the need to defend my actions.
The discourse then progressed/digressed? to the laws of copyright. After stating my case I let the matter drop as this thread is not the place for this type of discussion, and was unfair to other users, but over a week later I find I need to defend myself again from your remark (again underlined) regarding copyright. I thought long and hard on whether to respond or not, until I realised that if others believed you were right it might deter them from posting, and so I decided to let the facts speak for themselves. These quotes from the UK Copyright Service may help to finally put an end to this matter:-
What is fair use?
In copyright law, there is a concept of fair use, also known as; free use, fair dealing, or fair practice.
Fair use sets out certain actions that may be carried out, but would not normally be regarded as an infringement of the work.
The idea behind this is that if copyright laws are too restrictive, it may stifle free speech, news reporting, or result in disproportionate penalties for inconsequential or accidental inclusion.
What does fair use allow?
Under fair use rules, it may be possible to use quotations or excerpts, where the work has been made available to the public, (i.e. published). Provided that:- The use is deemed acceptable under the terms of fair dealing.
- That the quoted material is justified, and no more than is necessary is included.
- That the source of the quoted material is mentioned, along with the name of the author.
And also this quote from Webmaster World
“This paragraph is problematic. It implies that merely linking back to the source is enough to protect you or your members against claims of copyright infringement. It isn't.”
The law governing music, film and other types of compiled work is stricter of course, but no court in the land would consider the mundane postings on a public forums an infringement of copyright especially if there was no personal gain, they were factual and not of a derogatory nature. If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours0 -
Over £150 per yearThank you for your post madcat.
Am I the only one who is finding the direction this thread is going at the moment uncomfortable?
I don't want to comment on any copyright issues as others have obviously carried out lengthy research on it.
However, I don't have the time to go searching through umpteen cashback sites and their forums. I have valued all comments put on this thread, (whether they be links or quotes) and thanked those who place posts. It does take time and effort to research special deals and comments and I respect those who put in this time.
I therefore thank BLF, Diffusion, Numpty Monkey, Madcat, Linz, Moi, Eagerlearner and the countless others who have made my daily clicking a little more bearable since March this year.
Please keep posting...........:kisses3: to you all.

Well said LadyfromVenice.
Can we just draw a line under this copyright issue and carry on posting as normal with all the lovely helpful information from everyone.0 -
I have another question I hope someone can answer for me. How does Crunchcashback work out monies pending, awarded etc. I've looked at this several times but can't make head nor tail of it, and very little seems to move from pending to awarded. Thanks in advance. It's 5 o'clock somewhere!0

Well said and thankyou to you both :T
Arguing about law, whether copyright or otherwise, is pointless anyway as it is a minefield of contradictions and quotes can be found to suit most purposes, this is the reason why lawyers and the like can charge the sums they do :rotfl:
I feel we have both said all that needs to be said and I am quite happy to let the matter drop as I have said several times beforeIf you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours0 -
Why no bonus ball yet on Chief? I've been checking since Saturday night (sad that I am) and I'm totally sick of it now, so much so that I may never play again!! Rant over for now. It's 5 o'clock somewhere!0

Crunch, like most other cashback sites can only pay you when they have been paid themselves, so clicks go from pending to awarded then. The problem really is that so many affiliates and merchants are taking so long to pay up and are not very regular. The cashback sites very often get the blame but really it is not always their fault.

Hi bristolleedsfan,:)
I hope you won't mind me saying, but I prefer it when you quote instead of posting links because sometimes I can't get the link to work as I am not a member of those sites forums, but I am still
nosey!
Its not something that I wish to do Madcat on a regular basis partly not wholly because some forums/part of the forums have been made log in protected as the owners prefer people to become members of the forum in order to read all/some of the threads/posts, partly not wholly so as not to clutter up this thread with postings from other sites. I am also mindful of MSE forum rules when i post on this site.
I will however save you the difficulties that you describe by from now on rarely posting information that I have seen on other Cashback site forums that I believe maybe useful/answer questions by other users of this thread onto this thread.0 -
madcat, thanks. i have sent them a message and will wait to see if they reply. will let you know what the outcome is.0
