Faulty television

Hi,
23 months ago I bought a Toshiba television costing £1,000 from Comet. A month ago it was autotuning due to the digital switchover and has stuck in autotuning mode. I can watch it through my freeview DVD recorder but not through the DTV setting. I wrote to Comet's head office stating the Sale of Goods Act and they stated that the onus is on me to prove that there is a fault which I do not argue with. They informed me that a £30 inspection fee would be payable. However they did not state if they would pay it or I had to pay it.
Can anyone let me know if I had to pay the inspection fee and a fault was apparent would the onus be on them to pay for repair and to reimburse me the inspection fee?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rachel

This should be posted on the Consumer Rights board.
They are correct that you need an independant report after 6 months, and the onus is on you to prove a fault under SoGA, however I would not pay this inspection fee to Comet, (how are they independant?).
You need to get a totally independant report, make sure Comet are aware of this and agree with you who to use.
If a fault is proved you will get the report fee back from Comet, if they won't, then you will need to sue them in the SCC.
A Toshiba television costing £1,000 should last well in excess of 23 months.
How long of a warranty came with the TV? As some come with 2 years, (and if bought from John Lewis have a 5 year warranty).Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
