Seems Finnerty is seeing the code for the software that is running this forum. It could be a bug and only he could be affected or there is a problem with one of the scripts on his browser not being able to render the page properly.

    hi

also I use an aol browser but for the past few days i've had a pop up appearing ramdomly titled windows explorer saying if i want to remain logged on to click the pop up before <ramdom time> could that also be to do with this fault...the problem with this forum has only been since this morning

Apologies finnerty, I did not mean to be rude. Sorry I called you a 'he'. Although I am unfamiliar with the AOL browser, this pop up that keeps appearing, does it always appear when you log into aol or is this recently?

If it is recently, then your PC might be infected with spyware or malware and might be sending requests to this forum. If it is recent go to https://www.download.com and download SPYBOT - Search and Destroy and run a scan. Also run a antivirus scan just to be safe.

This isn't the usual ao-hell behaviour the pop up has been appering for around three days but the problem with this forum only around 12 hours, so they maynot be connected
I have recently done a mojor clean up on my comp due to an aol problem http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=210658
and as it takes a while to run all these clean up programs i will leave it for tonight and start a fresh in the morning

    thanks for your help

No need to apologise I'm always being refered to as a he on here and it's my own fault I should have chose a feminine sounding screeniei will continue all my posts in pink to avoid any more misunderstandings :-)

Finnerty - you are not alone!

I can't open a new thread on the Tech forum - however seem able to do so on the OS forum.

Also when I try to connect to the site via my usual route (I think it's the MSE homepage)it is trying to download a file to my pc and luckily windows safety thingy is asking my permission first.

This also happens if I try to go to the forums homepage using the chat forums 'button'. (I managed to get here by logging into OS and selecting the chat forums from the 'path' list given - the one that currently shows 'chat forums ----> Home, work & play
    > Techie stuff.)

My problem started around 5pm yesterday afternoon. Since then I have run both a spyware check and virus scan, but so far nothing, I will try again later.

I know that Freyaluck also was experiencing problems yesterday morning, but these appeared to be of a different nature.

I also use AOL - perhaps somehow it's only affecting those of us on AOL.

Fingers crossed it will be resolved soon!

I have just checked out my internet explorer browser and i can gain access to private messages and the post new thread option through them..... So it looks like it is a glitch in the aol software  ..... i will have a word with the idiots in live help maybe they've had so many quearies about this and similar problems that one of them may know what is going on for a change.... it is a long shot tho
