5000 Virgin Flying Club Points needed - how??

I'm booking a reward flight, but I'm 5000 miles short of a PE fare, instead of an economy fare.
I know there are ways to earn them instead of buying them, can anyone offer any hint or tips?
Thanks

Edit - oops just read your post properly...sorry
The quickest way really is to buy them from Virgin. 5,000 miles will cost £90 and they will be deposited in your account instantly. Given that there is a reward seat sale on and that rewards anyway are rarer than hen's teeth (IME), I;d go for that.

Otherwise you could try and earn them through shopping, or applying for and using a Virgin Amex card - but that will take a while longer and cost a lot more than £90 (although you'd end up with your purchase as well, of course!)

A good place to post this question might be https://www.v-flyer.com/forum - they are experts in working up roundabout ways to earn miles at minimal expense!

Virgin Wines has 3,000 mile introductory offer on your first order. You earn 750 miles with every order afterwards.
There's also a promotion on until mid Dec where you get 15% extra miles when you buy them (e.g. a purchase of 1000 miles gets you 1150)."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

Are you considering using miles for an entire reward seat ? It's generally accepted that using miles for economy or PE is a bit of a waste of miles. Have you considering using your miles to upgrade to UC - ie thousands of pounds worth of flying comfort for the price of an ecomony ticket.Legal team on standby0

I had a look at that but I really didn't want to spend that much money. I could have had an UC fare for £685 but as it's a last-minute trip and I'm broke at the moment I just went with the cheapest fare.
I booked the flight out with Virgin at a cost of 20,000 miles and £122 and the flight home with AA for 20,000 miles and and grand total of £3! I feel a bit cheated by Virgin... :rotfl::rotfl:Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

I have found a flight which has a really good saving with 2000 miles but I have only just signed up as a flying club member and haven't flown with Virgin before so I can't buy the miles myself. A friend was going to buy some for me but she told me yesterday that she couldn't find the option to do it any more and presumed that it is no longer possible to do this. She has flown with Virgin before. Can anyone confirm whether it's still possible to buy someone miles? I was told all the info about buying them will still on the website but the button to actually buy them was gone.
Many thanks.0 -
If you sign in to your Flying Club account online, the "Buy Miles" option shows up in the menu that is displayed on the left. I've just clicked it and it works! You have to be signed in to see it, though!
Once you're on the Buy Miles page, there are two options: buy miles or gift miles - there WAS an offer on to gift miles with a 15% bonus til 31 December. You could get lucky and find the option is still there!0 -
she needs to be signed in to Flying Club, and there is the option to Gift Miles to another Flying Club member...basically buying them for someone else.
Also in the T & C's if you are thinking of using Miles + Moneym) Buy and/or Gift Miles cannot be used unless previous earning activity is evident in a member’s account.
whether that applies to someone being gifted miles, you would need to check first0 -
Thanks both of you for your quick replies. I can see the "buy miles" option on the left too but once on that page there are no links to buy or gift the miles like you have (because I haven't flown with Virgin yet I assume). Basically it sounds like it should still be possible so I might ask my friend to have another look.
As for that T&C, it's a bit vague isn't it but I would think it applies to the buyer/gifter.
I've also found I can earn some miles by signing up to Virgin Games so I might give that a go. Thanks again for your help.0
