Mains network adaptor and PS3

I'm here again for some advice. Have been looking through other threads about adapting the mains for ethernet connectivity, and though they are very useful I am still a little unsure as to what exactly I need.
We have a desktop PC in an upstairs bedroom (not currently in use as it seems to have a really deepseated virus that means nothing can be done on it - but thats a side issue) connected directly to our Netgear router. Then we have a laptop downstairs connected wirelessly to the router.
OH wants to connect his PS3 (in the same room as the laptop) to the worldwide t'interweb. Now the laptop has pretty limited connectivity which isn't a problem in itself (I'm going to change the channel it operates on in case its interference), but we've tried connecting the PS3 wirelessly without any luck - it was a while ago when we tried so can't remember the exact nature of the problem.
Anyway it looks like a mains network adapter would be the best solution. So if I get 2 adapters do I need to plug one into a socket close to and then cable it to the PS3, or can this be wireless too? Then where is best to put the other adapter? Do I need dLan? I don't know what this is.
Thank you very much for your help, as always, clever people!! Merry Christmas to you all!:xmassmile:xmassmile

if you have a wireless router then you should be OK - how old is the router? As long as there arent too many walls in the way or too great a disatnce then the PS3 and Laptop should be ok to connect wirelessly.
I would suggest trying a different channel on the router first.
May need to make sure the PS3 wireless adapter is working by checking it can see anybody else's network.
Limited connectivity on the laptop makes me wonder if the settings are correct for any security settings you have on the routerDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0
